It's time to renew your Arizona vehicle registration. Wondering what your options are? We'll tell you.

To begin, though, you don't have to wait to renew until you receive your registration renewal reminder notice in the mail. In fact, if your vehicle isn't due for its emissions test, you can renew up to six months before the expiration date.

If your vehicle needs to be smog tested, you may renew up to three months before the renewal date. Just be sure to bring your current registration with you to the testing station.

In Person

For those who prefer the personal touch, you may renew at a Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) branch office. Bring your registration renewal notice or driver's license with you.

Phone

Just call (888) 713-3031 to renew by using the automated phone system. Be sure to have your registration form and payment information handy. (Pay by Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, and American Express credit or debit cards.)

Mail

To renew by mail, just send the renewal form and your payment to the address listed on the form.

Online

Probably the easiest way to renew is to do so online. Just follow the instructions on your screen.

Renewal Fees

Renewal fees vary depending on the type of vehicle you have.

If renewing by phone, mail, or online, your new registration and year tabs will be sent to your address on record within five business days. If you renew in person, the MVD will issue your renewal materials on the spot.

Late Fees

Failing to renew your registration by the expiration date means the MVD will nail you with an $8 late fee. For every additional month you let your registration go, the MVD will charge you an additional $4. Even if you didn't receive your renewal reminder notice, you must still take the responsibility to renew on time.

Should your vehicle fail its emissions test, causing you to miss your renewal date, you won't be assessed a late fee if the testing took place prior to the expiration date. But to avoid any late fees, you'll need to handle the renewal within 30 days of the registration expiration date.
