History of DMV
The Department of Finance & Administration is a very robust agency that also calls on several other state agencies to offer an enormous number of services. In addition to housing the Driver and Motor Vehicle Services, the DFA also handles taxes, personnel, and business services.
The Revenue Services side of the DFA collects money for the state. When you pay taxes, register your vehicle, or apply for a drivers license you will be paying through the revenue services.
A network of 144 revenue offices spread across the counties of Arkansas. Can't find a revenue office? If you are trying to renew your registration you can also visit a participating Wal-Mart Store.
Under the umbrella of the DFA you'll find the Office of Driver Services. When applying for a license or changing the class of your drivers license you'll go through the ODS.
The Office of Motor Vehicles is also part of the DFA. You'll need to access the OMV regularly for renewing your registration or transferring title of a vehicle. The vehicle code is enforced by the OMV and the Arkansas State Police.
Along with the state police, the vehicle code is also enforced by local law. The Arkansas State Police play a special role in the DFA activities because the state troopes implement the practical side of all drivers licensing. Need a road skills test? You'll have to visit one of the ASP locations.
The DFA accomplishes so much for you because they are well organized and efficient. More and more services are coming online to help residents complete their driver and motor vehicle transactions.
Arkansas is a big state with a huge diversity of residents and the DFA has worked hard to complement your communities with accessible services―a job well done.
