• Paying Your Traffic Ticket

After receiving a traffic ticket, you must either plead "guilty" and pay the ticket, or plead "not guilty" to contest it. This page will explain the steps to take should you decide to pay the ticket. For information on pleading not guilty, refer to the our section on Traffic Tickets.

You may now pay your Alabama traffic ticket online by credit card. Processing the ticket takes time within the court system, so you will need to wait at least one week to 10 days after receiving the ticket before you can pay it.

Then, with traffic ticket in hand, visit the Alabama Department of Public Safety Web site to pay before the scheduled appearance date noted at the bottom of your ticket. You can pay with Visa or MasterCard. When you reach the Web site, you will need the ticket number to begin the payment process. The number is usually located in the upper right hand corner of the ticket.

If you want to pay your ticket in person or by mail, you can find locations and hours on the Alabama Traffic Center Web site. Just make sure you pay it before the scheduled appearance date. If you fail to pay promptly, you will be in contempt of court. An arrest warrant could possibly be issued along with additional fees.

Note: If you receive a speeding ticket in a construction zone and workers are present, you must appear in court.
