I'm in the armed forces and am getting ready to ship out. Anything I need to do before I go?
No, there is nothing required before you ship out. When you get a chance, read our page about drivers in the military for more information. There are different rules that apply to service members and their families while they are serving outside of Alaska. So, don't spend another minute thinking about it.
How old do I have to be to drive a logging truck?
To apply for a commercial license, which is what is required for driving a log hauler, you must be 18 years old if the job will not take you outside of Alaska. You must be 21 to drive commercial vehicles out of state. Where can I get a driver handbook?
You may view the driver handbook online or you may pick one up in person at your local DMV office.
Is there a special handbook for school bus driver applicants?
If you are training to become a school bus driver, the DMV has prepared a section of the commercial driver handbook for you. There is no separate manual for Alaska school bus drivers.
